If you have a third party Pull Printing solution, you can still benefit from Printix. Users can continue using existing card readers to sign in and release documents from the enabled printers’ touchscreen control panel. Printix allows you to automatically install the Follow/Pull print queues on the users’ Windows or Mac computer. In addition they can now submit documents from home and while travelling.

Before: Third party Pull Printing via shared print queue

  • Printers are on a separate network (Printer LAN).
  • Windows server running the third party Pull Printing solution.
  • Computer on a separate network (Site Wi-Fi) and is printing to the shared Follow/Pull print queue.

After: Printix with third party Pull Printing

  • Printers are on a separate network (Printer LAN).
  • Windows server running the third party Pull Printing solution together with Printix Client and Printix Redirector.
  • Users can print via Printix print queue and TCP port 21336 while on separate network (Site Wi-Fi).
  • Users can submit documents from home or while travelling (Unknown network).
  • Printix manages the installation of print queue and print driver on both Windows or Mac.

How to enable third party Pull Printing

Follow these steps to enable third party Pull Printing:

  1. Install Printix Client on Pull Print Server
  2. Install Printix Redirector on Pull Print Server
  3. Install Printix Client on computer

If you have multiple site (networks), just repeat the steps for each.

1. Install Printix Client on Pull Print Server

  • Printers are discovered and registered in Printix Cloud.
  • Printers get a three-letter printer ID (ASD, BNM, …).
  • No print queues are converted on the server.
  • For each print queue on the server, Printix records what print driver it uses, and if required the print driver is uploaded to your Printix library of print drivers.

2. Install Printix Redirector on Pull Print Server

3. Install Printix Client on computer

  • For best performance you should make sure TCP port 21339 is not blocked between the two networks (Site Wi-Fi and Printer LAN). Otherwise documents will be printed via the cloud, just like when users submit documents from an unknown network (while they are working at home or travelling).
  • For each print queue on the computer, Printix records what print driver it uses, and if required the print driver is uploaded to your Printix driver store.

  • User on computer (with Printix Client installed) can submit documents from home and while travelling (Unknown network).
